The Law of the Land

How To Play

A social deduction game of trust, deception, and survival.

Chapter One

What Is Werewolves Revenge?

Werewolves Revenge is an online adaptation of the classic party game. A group of players is secretly divided into two or more teams and must use discussion, deduction, and deception to figure out who is on which side before it's too late.

Each game alternates between two phases:

Night

Certain roles take secret actions (investigate, kill, protect, etc.)

Day

All surviving players discuss openly, accuse one another, and then vote to execute a player.

This cycle continues until one team (or player) reaches their win condition, at which point the game ends and they are the winner/s.

Chapter Two

The Factions

In Werewolf, teams are known as factions. Each faction has their own goals and ways to win. There are 5 factions in Werewolves Revenge, namely:

The Town

The Town are the uninformed majority. At the start of the game, they do not know anyone else's identity. They must rely on deduction and voting in order to find and execute the horrors of the night before it's too late.

Victory

They win when there are no Werewolves or Evils left alive.

The Werewolves

The Werewolves are the informed minority. They meet in secret and choose a player to attack each night. The Werewolves slowly work down the Town, edging closer to victory but also leaving less space to hide in plain sight.

The Werewolves have a shared nightly attack that any Werewolf can perform each night.

Victory

They win when Werewolves equal or outnumber other players, and there are no Evils left alive.

Neutrals

Neutral roles have their own unique objectives or win condition, independent of all other factions. Neutrals hold no allegiances, and will do whatever it takes to survive and win.

Victory

They win if they survive until the end of the game, or by their own special win condition.

Evils

Evil roles are powerful, selfish roles who oppose all other players. They often have strong, game altering abilities that demand attention from the entire Town.

Victory

They win when there are 3 or less players alive regardless of their factions, or by their own special win condition.

Lesser Evils

Lesser Evil roles align with either the Werewolves or Evils. They exist to cause chaos and sabotage the Town.

Victory

They win if the Town loses.

Chapter Three

Game Flow

Setup

  1. All Players must claim a house by interacting with an unclaimed door.
  2. The host must create a balanced role list, with an amount of roles equal to the amount of claimed houses.
  3. The host can then use the "Assign Roles" button to randomly and secretly assign the roles to all claimed houses, and the game is ready to begin.

Night Phase

  • All alive players must return to their homes.
  • A countdown timer begins, starting the Action phase. During this time players may use their "At Night" abilities.
  • The Werewolves meet in the Cave, a shared space for them to discuss, and decide who to attack.
  • Once the timer ends, the Resolution phase begins. During this time players may no longer use their abilities, but can still meet. This phase is the host's signal to resolve all abilities used during the night, and is not timed.

Day Phase

  • Each day begins with all players leaving their homes, and the host giving announcements. The host states which players were attacked during the night, and if they were protected from the attack. Note: whilst the type of attack is announced (Attack, Bleed etc), the player or role that caused the attack stays a mystery.
  • Discussion begins, allowing all players to speak openly and move freely around the Town.
  • The Discussion phase's length is automatically determined by the amount of players still alive in the game, and will automatically move to the Voting phase once complete.

Voting Phase

  • Voting starts with the Accusation vote. All players can choose to accuse a player by interacting with their door.
  • The two players with the most votes are accused (In the case of a tie, more than two players can be accused). They must then give defenses, where they address the Town and can be questioned publicly.
  • After defenses, the Execution vote starts. All players that are not accused can now vote which accused player they think should be eliminated.
  • If one player has the majority vote, they are executed and revealed. The game then continues to night and the cycle begins again.

Chapter Four

Tips for New Players

Town

Pay attention to behaviour, not just claims. Who's being unusually quiet? Who's overly eager to point fingers early?

Werewolves

Don't overplay your hand. Blending in and voting believably with the crowd is usually more effective than staying silent or acting suspiciously defensive.

Voting

Voting is often your greatest tool to influence the game. As Town, it may be your only way to eliminate the Werewolf threat.

Everyone

Deduction, reading people and finding inconsistencies are the core skills of this game. Confidence, consistency, and reasoning under pressure win more games than any single role or ability.

Good luck. Don't let the Werewolves bite.
