Feeling Exposed?

Store

The Demon set arrives!

Keywords
  • Exposed is a lot less frustrating now that you do not instantly die if accused, but all roles that expose now feel quite weak and have seen a lot less play since exposes rework. This change is quite significant and will make exposing roles feel very strong. Exposed players are no longer told that they are exposed.

Sound
  • The Vampire win sound is now 30% more freaky.

A Cult is forming..

Haven
  • Removed one of the stalls in the market.

  • Reduced the size of the market.

  • Added a new wall, separating the market from the wooded area.

  • Nerfed the sound of the waterfall.

Animation
  • Hugely upgraded the Animation system to allow for a disconnect of Character Rotation and Control Rotation. This is what "locks" your character to the direction that you are looking in, and this new disconnect opens up a lot of options for natural looking animations. This is a core part of the new Cult gamemode but will be used elsewhere as well (Stay tuned!).

Interaction
  • Implemented a new system that allows for interactable objects to check if they should highlight when looking at them. This is a core part of the new Cult gamemode but can be used else where in the future.

  • Implemented a new system that allows for a user's interaction trace distance to be changed at runtime. This functions as a way to "extend your reach" and is vital for the new Cult gamemode to function.

Characters
  • Implemented a system that allows for character scale to be changed at runtime.

  • Currently this only means that the feminine body type is slightly shorter than the masculine body type.

UI
  • Resized several UI elements to better fill the screen now that there are 12 players in each game.

Standard

Role Changes

Arcane Mage
  • Maximum mana reduced from 120 to 90.

  • Polymorph now costs 60 mana instead of 90.

  • Obliterate now costs 90 mana instead of 120.

A New Standard

July 19, 2026

A New Standard

Keywords
Guaranteed
  • is no longer considered manipulation.

Hex (new)
  • Hex is a complicated keyword that is going to add a bit of "fluff" to the game. It causes a player's abilities to fail (target is successful, they just have no effect), causes their passives to disable, and if they were to learn information because of their role the information will be wrong.

Bleed, ignite and poison.
  • Multiple instances of a damage over time keyword no longer stack, but different damage over time keywords do still stack.

  • So a player can only ever be "bleeding", not "bleeding 3 times".

  • But a player can be "bleeding, ignited and poisoned" all at the same time. (Yikes)

Exposed
  • Exposed is now triggered by getting at least 1 vote during the Execution vote, instead of being accused in the accusation vote.

Timers
  • Slightly increased the length of the discussion phase to accommodate the shift toward social deduction instead of ability use.

  • Slightly reduced the length of the Action phase so that nights are a bit quicker.

Starter

The Starter set has been removed. Standard is receiving huge changes to make it more approachable, and thus there isn't much need for a cut down simplified version of it.

Standard

Standard is seeing significant changes across the entire roster. Starting with roles that we are saying goodbye to.

Removed Roles
  • Arsonist - The Arsonist and Fire Dragon are fighting for the same spot in the Standard set, and the Fire Dragon won!

  • Chronomancer - The Chronomancer is a great example of a role that is not suited for the Standard set. Standard is meant to be a sleek set of well defined roles to act as a base, which then allows other sets to explore crazy and complex ideas.

  • Council Elder - The council Elder is a complicated role, perhaps too complicated for Standard. She also steps on the toes of the Judge. She'll find a new place to shine in another set.

  • Cthulhu - This one breaks my heart, but feels needed. Cthulhu makes for some very funny moments, but doesn't add much to the game in terms of social deduction. I think that he will be much happier in another set, just not Standard.

  • Cupid - Cupid doesn't add anything in terms of claim-ability to the game. Although he will likely return in another set.

  • Death - Another role I bet you thought wouldn't be on this list! Death isn't getting completely nuked, rather the Elder Dragon is going to take on Death's abilities as he fits the Standard set's theming better.

  • Ember Wolf - The Ember Wolf was only created to give the Werewolves a way to ignite. Why? This served no purpose and was just bloat.

  • Ember Archer - Town has too many ways to eliminate targets, the need to rely more on voting. The Ember Archer was too easy to confirm has they could just ignite whoever they liked.

  • Fallen Star - After 6 different reworks, I think it may be time to admit that the Fallen Star needs some time away to discover who he is and what he wants in life.

  • Frost Wolf - Making everyone frail only takes away from the social deduction aspect of the game. Global warming has destroyed too much of the Frost Wolf's habitat for him to be around anymore.

  • Herbalist - The herbalist does a lot, and provides Town with 2 things they don't need. Heals - we already have several roles that heal, and Poison, a mechanic that Town probably shouldn't have.

  • Janitor - The Janitor didn't fit thematically, and didn't provide much to the game. An easy role to cut as I can't remember the last time I saw him used.

  • Locksmith - The Locksmith was too similar to the Party Animal. With the changes to the horror he simply doesn't fit in. Time to lock him up.

  • Old Man - This one you may be surprised by as he was used a lot in games. Not only does the Old Man not fit thematically, but his shotgun blast automatically confirms his role. He'll make a return somewhere else, but standard is no longer his home.

  • Pack Wolf - The copy of the peasant, a basic role with an incredibly basic ability that doesn't add anything of value to the game.

  • Peasant - I feel like this one doesn't need much explaining. Everyone who got the peasant was disappointed to play it, and it didn't add anything of value. He will reappear in a "Werewolf Classic" set in the future, but for now he's going back to the mines.

  • Poison Drake - I swear everyone kind of just forgets this role exists. We've got enough dragons, the Poison Drake can go back to eternal slumber.

  • Psychopath - The Psychopath and Guardian Angel are too similar to exist in the same set. Psychopath will fit in much better in the Dark set anyways!

  • Serial Killer - An incredibly interesting role, but he struggles to fit into a world that Cannibal exists in. He'll find a new home in the Dark set.

  • Treant - A role that is very cool thematically, but has always lacked any real identity in terms of mechanics. The Treant will find a new home in another set.

  • Traveller - The Traveller travelled a bit far, and is now trying to find his way back.

  • Skeletal Wolf - The Skeletal Wolf has always struggled to be relevant as the Werewolves having access to any kind of frailty is kind of nuts. o7 bony guy.

  • Werewolf Herbalist - Similar to the removal of the Herbalist, the Werewolves simply do not need a way to Heal - a very "Town" mechanic, or Poison - giving them too much killing power.

  • Zombie - The Zombie is the role Evil most likely of making a return to the Standard set, stay tuned!

Rocking the Boat

Player Count

I bet you thought you'd never see this change! Most social deduction games (especially ones with powerful abilities and voice chat) stick to a smaller player count for a lot of reasons. A 16 player lobby is too chaotic, and makes games last too long. I've always said that 12 is the best amount of players to play with, and now it's the standard!

  • Werewolf player count changed from 16 to 12.

Game Engine

This is a huge change behind the scenes, and has meant having to rebuild steam integration from scratch, so expect some bugs!

  • Upgraded from Unreal Engine 5.3 to Unreal Engine 5.8

  • Upgraded the render pipeline to render with increased clarity.

Haven
  • Adjusted to 12 houses.

  • Slightly reduced the size of the main play area.

  • Added ground clutter and plans to the main play area.

  • Added more "stuff" to the market, making it feel slightly more lived in.

  • Restricted access to the spin the bottle area to ghosts only.

Kingsreach
  • Adjusted to 12 houses.

  • Heavily reworked the size of the main play area, making it much smaller.

  • Adjusted both sides of the map to be "closer" to match the now smaller main play area.

  • Restricted access to the area across the water to ghosts only.

Egypt

The Egypt map is getting a rework to make it more distinct from the map it was based on, Kingsreach.

  • Temporarily removed.

Game Pace

Most games should be significantly shorter now because of the game maxing out at 12 players, which allows for days and nights to be slightly longer.

  • Day Discussion extended by 2 seconds per alive player.

  • Night Action phase extended by 30 seconds.

Role Changes

Standard

Judge

The judge is too easy to ignore by simply adding him to the list of accused players each day. This change forces the Town to interact with him in a meaningful way.

  • Can no longer be accused or converted.

  • Executions made by the Judge are now unstoppable.

Cleanup Crew

Cleanup Crew

Fumbled
  • Player profile, character customization, and saved character sets save files are no longer encrypted. The encryption was to prevent people from manually editing save files to change their titles or customization to assets that they did not own.

  • A new system that checks ownership of items when save files are loaded has been implemented as a replacement.

  • An unfortunate side effect of this is that your current save files are now a fumbled mess. Your selected titles and profile colour will be reset when you open the game.

  • I have made a temporary change to character customization and saved sets to read encrypted files but to then save them as unencrypted. Important: Please change your character in some way, and save a new set. This will fix and future-proof your save files

Keywords
  • Added "Appear" as a keyword. Appear is used by quite a lot of roles already, it's now searchable and consistent.

  • Added "Guarantee" as a keyword. This one is more niche, but is now defined as "Prevent any manipulations from affecting an ability or target."

Play Screen
  • You can no longer see Private lobbies.

  • You can now only see Friends lobbies if you are friends with the lobby host.

Haven
  • One of the squirrels has moved across the water and has moved in to a tree near the cave. Please understand that they both still love you very much, but they have decided they can no longer live in the same oak tree. They will now be occupying separate sides of the map. This is a mutual decision and has nothing to do with how many times you chased them.

Gameplay systems
  • Implemented a system that allows for day-active abilities to display to specific players instead of all players.

  • Upgraded the role resource system to allow for resource gain growth, allowing for the amount of resources gained per night to increase as the game progresses.

  • Titles and colours earned through achievements are no longer received as items on steam. The game now evaluates your achievements when deciding which titles and colours you have instead. *Any titles or colours earned before this will be removed from your inventory the next time you open the game

Role Changes

Dark Set

Assassin

Removed

Thief

Slight Change

  • Now assumes their target's role AND faction. (I'm still mad about this Timmy)

  • Fixed a bug causing hosts to not be able to open a house's control panel by clicking 'use' on their role card.

  • Fixed a bug causing player notes to appear on top of the host role selection screen, blocking several buttons.

  • Fixed the Bard's "Spectacle" achievement being impossible to get after the bard rework.

  • Fixed a bug causing you to not receive the "Werewolf Attack" Achievement for killing a player with the Werewolf attack.

Role Changes

Standard

Guard Dog

New

Alpha Wolf

This change aims to add counterplay and visibility to the Alpha Wolf. Currently there is no way to know that a player's faction may have changed until the Alpha Wolf dies, which is often too late.

  • Conversion now replaces the Werewolf attack instead of being a separate targeted ability.

  • Conversion no longer requires the player to be Town.

Bard

The bard archetype is a core part of so many fantasy worlds, but for us they are a rarely used hyper-specific mess of a role. This new bard simplifies their abilities so that they can become a staple Town Manipulation role. This initial rework is only the start, as there may be space in the future for the bard to give charges to abilities or resources.

  • Ultimate removed.

  • Is now permanently frail.

  • Now enhances a player each night.

  • Players cannot be enhanced on consecutive nights.

Chronomancer

Rework

  • Now speeds up time for a single player during discussion, instead of the entire Town.

  • Can now speed up time every day.

  • Speeding up time no longer causes the Chronomancer to perish.

Corrupt Noble

Rework

  • Bribe now has 1 charge.

  • Bribe no longer redirects abilities used to the Evil you are meeting with.

  • Bribe now offers a player the choice to convert a player to Lesser Evil if they accept.

Dragon Knight

Rework

  • Now has permanent defense.

  • Now converts to a Lesser Evil if attacked.

  • No longer ignites players.

  • Now attacks any players that attack the player he is protecting.

Magus

Removed from the game.

Stone Golem

Adjusted

  • Now redirects all abilities, instead of just attacks.

Tormentor

Rework

  • Torment no longer redirects abilities used by a player onto the Tormentor.

  • If Torment is used on a Town player, it now causes that player's night actions to miss.

  • If Torment is used on a player that is not Town, it enhances them for the night.

The Blob

Rework

  • No longer has health as a resource.

  • Now selects 3 players to be part of the blob at the start of the game, instead of adding players slowly each night.

  • Now attacks a player each night.
